You only live once
"If you are waiting until you have everything
figured out before you start you will be waiting for the rest of your life....
Start living your life now... Take a risk.. Experience
is the best teacher. "
How many times has it happened to you that you wanted
to do something but waited for that one right moment to initiate? ... How many
times did you take a step back after having made up your mind for something but
just wanted everything to be perfect for it?
Quite a number of times... Isn't it? It's not just
with you but it does happen with me as well and with everyone of us. We just
wait for that one right moment for that "something".
Now another question: how many of us could get that
one right moment so far for which we've been delaying our choices? And for
those who could get it, what difference did it make eventually for waiting for
that moment.
Just for a refresher from my previous posts on choice:
" It is our choices which define who we are and what we'll eventually land
up to be! "
People
often are scared to take up huge leaps due to the fears that surround them even
before taking the first step…
A friend recently asked
me all of a sudden… Give me a Life advice about handling the fears to take a
huge step in Life. I thought about it and here’s the best thing that I
could think of:
Pick up a pen and paper
and start answering these questions:
- · Why is this opportunity important to you?
- · What things motivate / motivated you for this opportunity?
- · What would you get out of this opportunity?
- · What did you lose / sacrifice for this opportunity? Is this opportunity worth it?
Now it’s time to know
yourself better.
- · How well do you think you know yourself?
- · What are those things that only you know about yourself and no one else does?
- · What are those things which you think people know about you and you know about them too!! (Cross check with your most trusted and close people on this)
- · What things kick up your energy levels?
- · What are you passionate about?
- · Is this step that you’re about to take, in any way, related to your passion? If not, why?
- · How confident are you in taking risks and taking responsibility for them?
If you could answer the above questions, then
introspect about what is the fear that is troubling you? And write it down too!
The key role in all the decisions is the situation that surrounds a person.. Let’s see how we can work them out:
- · What are the things / elements you think can be a hurdle in the leap that you’re about take?
- · What counter measures can you take to avoid each of these hurdles?
You now are aware about
yourself, about things that may go wrong and their tackle ideas. Now you would
need to identify the people who you’d be a part of this journey…
- · List out their names and the reason for selecting them
- · List out the names of the people who are with you now but not a part of the list above… write the reasons for not including them in the list above. This maybe a very harsh decision on you but you need to objectively evaluate who are those people who you actually want in your close vicinity to be there for you, to act as your shield, to be your motivators... In short ..people who you'd go to pour your heart out in any situation - good / bad.
Have a look at this
paper now… Did you get your answers now? Whenever you are in doubt, now
onwards, just have a look at it.
We fear something
because we don’t know what it holds for us… but now that we are aware about every possible
thing, the only thing we can do is that take it up as an adventure … and see
the change in your thought process with the adrenaline rush!!!
This is the right
moment to do what you want to start… If
you delay or wait for the “Right Time” … you may never ever feel so passionate about
it again and what you’d be left with is regrets!!
Take Risks… Shoot for
the moon.. even if you miss, you’d eventually land up amongst the stars. A stagnant
life is as good as a rusted sword… Keep experimenting, for that’d satisfy you
at the Happy Endings Page of the beautiful story that you wrote for yourself.
